Health in Tech (“HIT”) is an AI-enabled insurance technology platform company which offers a marketplace that improves processes in the healthcare industry through vertical integration, process simplification, and automation. By removing friction and complexities, we streamline the underwriting, sales, and service process for insurance companies, licensed brokers, managing general underwriters (“MGUs”) and third-party administrators (“TPAs”). Health In Tech’s platform serves as a marketplace for brokers, TPAs, MGUs and carriers to access self-funded health insurance for employers, providing functions including customized self-funded health plans, bindable stop-loss quotes, AI-enabled underwriting, claims administration and reporting integration.
Position Summary
The full stack Software Engineer will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining core components of our “WO” platform. This role is both hands-on and collaborative, requiring strong technical expertise, ownership of complex engineering projects, and the ability to act as a team lead acting as a liaison between both onshore and offshore teams. You will influence technical direction, drive best practices, and help evolve our architecture as we scale.
AI Proficiency Requirement Demonstrated proficiency with AI development tools and applied AI engineering practices is a mandatory, non-negotiable qualification for this role. Candidates must be able to evidence hands-on experience integrating AI capabilities into production software. Applications that do not meet this requirement will not be considered.
Key Responsibilities
Software Design & Development
- Mandatory hands-on experience in utilizing Gen AI tools in full stack development (front end, APIs & backend)
- Mandatory experience in leveraging “spec driven development” (e.g. AWS Kiro), AI Code Assistants (e.g. GitHub Co-Pilot or Claude Code) in generating, reviewing and merging the code in existing branches and repositories.
- Hands-on experience in both vibe coding and spec driven coding.
- Architect, develop, and maintain high-quality, scalable backend and/or frontend systems.
- Build APIs, microservices, and integrations that support health insurance benefits workflows.
- Implement robust, secure solutions aligned with healthcare compliance requirements (HIPAA, SOC 2, etc.).
- Optimize system performance, reliability, and scalability in a cloud-native environment.
Technical Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead technical design discussions, code reviews, and architecture decisions.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, promoting best engineering practices.
- Work closely with product management, data engineering, QA, and UX teams to ship high-impact features.
- Contribute to the evolution of engineering standards, tooling, and CI/CD pipelines.
Innovation & Problem-Solving
- Translate complex health benefits requirements into elegant technical solutions.
- Identify opportunities to automate processes, improve system quality, and enhance user experience.
- Support migration efforts, modernization, and the adoption of new technologies where appropriate.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5–7 years of professional software engineering experience in a production environment.
- Direct experience in React Framework, PostGreSQL Database, Django Framework & GraphQL
- Strong proficiency with one or more modern programming languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Go).
- Experience building cloud-native multi-tenant solutions using AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Solid understanding of REST APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
- Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB).
- Strong understanding of secure coding practices and data privacy.
Preferred:
- Exposure to AI-powered or analytics-driven product features.
- Experience in the health insurance, healthcare tech, or benefits management sector.
- Familiarity with data standards such as EDI 834/837, FHIR, or claims processing workflows.
- Knowledge of containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
