This role manages complex, non-standard underwriting cases that fall outside standard guidelines, applying sound judgment based on experience, market trends, and health data to resolve exceptions. It requires close partnership with the sales team and direct engagement with brokers, agents, and clients to explain underwriting decisions, negotiate terms, and address exception-related inquiries, while ensuring all practices comply with applicable regulations, including HIPAA and the ACA, and internal company policy. The role also involves conducting audits and reviews of underwriting files to identify compliance gaps, coordinating with compliance teams to align exception decisions with regulatory and risk standards, and collaborating with actuarial, medical, and claims teams to support informed decision-making. Additionally, the individual will engage senior leadership on underwriting trends and risk assessment improvements, and participate in cross-functional meetings to keep underwriting practices aligned with overall business goals and client needs.
