Job Title: Stop Loss Underwriter 

Location: Remote USA – Working hours are Eastern Time Zone with some flexibility
Employment Type: Full-Time or Part-Time
Salary Range: $120,000 – $150,000 (commensurate with experience)

By removing friction and complexities, we streamline the underwriting, sales, and service process for insurance companies, licensed brokers, managing general underwriters (“MGUs”) and third-party administrators (“TPAs”). Health In Tech’s platform serves as a marketplace for brokers, TPAs, MGUs and carriers to access self-funded health insurance for employers, providing functions including customized self-funded health plans, bindable stop-loss quotes, AI-enabled underwriting, claims administration and reporting integration.

Key Responsibilities: 

  •  Underwriting Exceptions 
  • Handle complex and non-standard cases that fall outside the regular underwriting guidelines 
  • Make judgment-based decisions on exceptions, using experience, market trends, and health data 
  • Collaboration with Sales 
  • Partner with sales team to review underwriting decisions 
  • Attend meetings with brokers, agents, or clients to explain underwriting decisions, negotiate terms, and handle inquiries regarding policy exceptions 
  • Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management 
  • Ensure all underwriting practices are compliant with health insurance regulations, including HIPAA and ACA, as well as company policies 
  • Conduct audits and reviews of underwriting files to ensure adherence to guidelines, identifying any compliance gaps or areas for improvement 
  • Collaborate with compliance teams to ensure that underwriting decisions, particularly on exceptions, align with both regulatory standards and internal risk policies 
  • Cross-Department Collaboration 
  • Work closely with actuarial, medical, and claims teams to review data and make informed decisions 
  • Engage with senior leadership to provide insights on underwriting trends, exceptions management, and areas for improving risk assessment strategies 
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings to ensure underwriting practices are aligned with overall business goals and client needs 

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, or economics 
  • Advanced degree preferred 
  • Medical and Pharmacy Underwriting experience – 3-7 years with a strong understanding of risk assessment and management (Large Group Preferred) 
  • Strong skills needed – analytical, communication decision making, negotiation, and strategic thinking
